PoochieKing2 has won the Spring edition of the Unibet Open after defeating a 263-entry field in the online Main Event. The Canadian won €56,497 in the €200,000 guaranteed tournament which started on Sunday.
Among those who made the money was new Unibet Twitch streamer Emily “riskitforabiscuit” Glancy. Emily celebrated her biggest cash on Unibet after finishing 25th for €2,250. The Warrington-based marketing coordinator has been playing poker since she was 16 but only started playing online during lockdown. She started streaming for Unibet in January and has already amassed a strong following.
She said: “I am thrilled with my cash; it’s spurred me on to keep developing my skills and achieve my dream of becoming a full-time pro. Unibet Ambassador Ian Simpson was the first poker player I watched on Twitch and it inspired me to start my own stream last October. I love the Unibet community and streamers so I was delighted when Unibet approached me to become a part of their own stream team.
“Playing online and streaming has proved to be a steep learning curve – full of trials and tribulations – but, through studying, grinding the fields and having some great poker pals to chat to, I have developed my game immensely over the past year.”
Emily has twice won her entry into the Unibet Opens via a €10 buy in satellite on Unibet Poker. She said: “I have been steadily been moving up the stakes and managing my bank roll so now I can invest in higher stakes and continue to grow …hopefully.”
Markus “PrinzofDTO” Prinz, who co-founded the popular GTO training app DTO Poker Trainer with March’s Unibet Open champion Dominic Nitsche, was the overnight chip leader and finished eighth for €6,254. Other notables who made it through to Day 2 included Unibet Ambassador Ian Simpson and Belgian Unibet Ambassador Charlotte “sjlot” Van Brabander.
Ian Simpson, who also made Day 2 in three other Unibet Online Series events, finished in tenth place for €3,512 – enough to give him a podium position of third place on the overall Series leaderboard and make him winner of the high Leaderboard. Van Brabander finished 40th for €1,866.
Former Irish Open champ Simpson said: “I think I was only one key flip away from winning the Leaderboard! It was so much fun grinding for two weeks. I had a +€10k on the first Sunday of the festival and a deep run in the Unibet Open Main Event was an exhilarating way to end it. I won’t lie, it stung to miss out on the final table by 1 pip with a gross river card, but that’s the game! Bring on the next one!”
A total of 240 unique players took part in the €1,100 buy-in tourney, with a further 23 rebuys bringing the prize pool up to €276,150 – way over the €200,000 guarantee. Day 2 started on Monday with just 58 players left in the field. A total of 44 players made the money with a min-cash worth €1,866.
The Unibet Open events marked an exhilarating end to the €650,000 guaranteed Unibet Online Series which comprised 102 different tournaments. There were several other flagship Unibet Open tourneys in addition to the Main Event. “Uzd2BDc3nt” from the Netherlands won the £12,500 guarantee Unibet Open Warm-Up for €3,857 while Finnish player Bamboozling won the two-day £50k guarantee Unibet Open rebuy tourney for €10,229. Across the whole Unibet Online Series, there were more than 26,000 entries creating an overall prize pool of €786,990.
The Unibet Open tour switched from IRL to URL back in May last year. Top British poker pro Max Silver was the first Unibet Online champion with Irishman Padraig O’Neill then making history by taking down the next two events back-to-back. German superstar Dominic Nitsche won the first event of 2021 in March.
Nataly Sopacuaperu, Unibet’s Head of Events, said: “This was the second Unibet Open of 2021 and – yet again – we had an exciting, very well-attended, guarantee-busting event. Congrats to all those who made the money especially our worthy winner PoochieKing2 and new Unibet Twitch streamer Emily Glancy.
“We look forward to lots more great tournaments this year and are delighted to announce that we already have dates for the next Unibet Open. Yet again, it will form part of the Unibet Online Series – the Series will start September 12, with the two-day Unibet Open Main Event starting on September 26.”
