All Unibet Opens in 2021 to be held online

Unibet Open today announced that all the tour’s 2021 events will now be held online.

The tour switched from IRL to URL back in May last year, with Unibet Open Tallinn becoming the first ever Unibet Open online festival. The online offer has proved incredibly successful and a real hit with players who have relished the chance to compete for huge prize pools on Unibet Poker.

The first online Unibet Open of 2021 will be held in March and once again the tour is joining forces with the Unibet Online Series. Several flagship events are scheduled, including the €250,000 guaranteed Unibet Open Main Event starting Sunday, March 21. A ton of satellite qualifiers for the Unibet Open are already underway, including €1, €2 and €5 turbos.

The Unibet Open festival will mark a spectacular finale for the €1 million guaranteed Unibet Online Series which features 145 tournaments in total. This is the eleventh edition of the Series which, yet again, is expected to attract thousands of players.

As well as the two-day £250,000 guarantee Unibet Open Main Event, other Unibet Open tournaments taking place include the £15,000 guarantee Unibet Opener starting March 17, the £15,000 guarantee Unibet Open Warm-Up on March 20 plus a two-day £50,000 guarantee Unibet Open rebuy tourney on March 21.

Top British poker pro Max Silver won the first ever online Unibet Open Main Event last May. He snagged a €77,320 first prize after beating Twitch streamer Jamie “jamnix_90” Nixon heads-up in a thrilling finish. There were 373 entries creating a total prize pool of €391,650 – nearly double the (then) €200,000 guarantee.

In October last year, Irishman Padraig O’Neill took down his first Unibet Open title when he outlasted a 387-entry field to win a lifetime best cash of €79,998. O’Neill, a Unibet Poker regular, qualified for the €1,100 buy-in Main Event in a €50 satellite. The 31-year-old then made history when he became the first back-to-back Unibet Open Online champion just two months later after winning the winter edition of the online Unibet Open Main Event for €52,622.

Unibet Ambassador Dara O’Kearney said: “We miss live poker but these big online festivals recreate real buzz and excitement. We just have to hope Padraig O’Neill takes pity on the rest of us and stops winning them all!”

Nataly Sopacuaperu, Unibet’s Head of Events, said: “Many live events are starting up again this year but, given the success of our online events in 2020, we plan to host all this year’s Unibet Open events online as well. There is still some uncertainty about how 2021 will pan out in terms of travel restrictions and, with that in mind, we want to ensure players don’t miss out the chance to win a Unibet Open title! And don’t forget to check out the full Unibet Online Series schedule.”
